About Me

Jeannie Brett
The East Coast has always been my home. I spent my childhood years in the coastal town of Hingham, Massachusetts, surrounded by a multitude of animal friends, a big field behind the back yard, and an old livery stable to play in.

Some of our pets were guinea pigs, lots of kitties, a couple of dogs, three horses, a donkey, a Shetland pony, bunnies, and a pet chicken named Deli. We didn’t have all of these animal friends at one time, mind you…but you get the picture.

Our family spent summers sailing the high seas in a wonderful wooden sloop, exploring the Elizabeth Islands off of Massachusetts and the inlets and islands of coastal Maine.

I attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Minneapolis College of Art & Design in Minnesota.

Through freelance art jobs and waiting tables, I made a living in my early twenties, until I became a full time freelance illustrator. I worked doing educational illustration and commercial illustration for local ad agencies.

Along came my husband and three great kids, and of course our own menagerie of pets.

About ten years ago I started illustrating books for children. L is for Lobster; A Maine Alphabet was the first book I illustrated. Check out my Books page for my other books. I have been trying my hand at writing, and you’ll find my first written and illustrated title, Little Maine, listed on the Books page also. Currently I am working on another book that I’m writing and illustrating….. all about BEARS!

I live in a coastal town in Maine with my husband (the kids are all grown up) surrounded by our animal friends. We have a big brown horse named Bailey, a sweet, shy Newfoundland, Cali, a wonderful orange cat named Tortellini and a very large, active Maine Coon cat named Trout!
